Finding Joy
As Christmas approaches, I am reminded of the joyful memories of time shared with loved ones. I am grateful for creative collaboration with clients and colleagues on amazing projects. I am aware that we are also one year past Hurricane Helene. The tragedy of that event forever changed our community, along with the landscape of our beloved mountain home. But the generosity and perseverance of spirit that followed will be a lasting legacy to honor those who were lost.
Learning to live with loss and finding some measure of peace within it has shown me that joy and pain often coexist. Life is about experiencing both with as much grace as we can. Hardships inevitably cause pain, but maturity gives us the wisdom to truly appreciate moments of joy.
It is a blessing to have others whom we can pour ourselves into. Giving of oneself to nurture what is important brings deep contentment. Making home come to life brings me joy, whether designing a home for a client or decorating my own home for the holidays. Creating space for life is about honoring time . . . which is truly the most precious gift we can give or receive.
This holiday season, I am creating new traditions while honoring Christmases past. Early each morning offers time for reflection and is my gift to myself, with a warm cup of tea in hand, the glow of the tree and soft Christmas music playing. And just as I did with my mother, I am sharing the gifts of music, decorating and baking with my now adult daughters . . . . where does the time go? We are adding to the joy, taking away the noise, and holding space with one another for new traditions to emerge.
This holiday season, I wish you heartfelt joy.
