PROJECT INTERIOR DESIGNER
During college, Valerie accompanied her sister to select lighting for her new home, and the experience changed her life’s trajectory. To this day, she vividly recalls how she felt an instant love for interior design. She was hooked! Valerie quickly changed colleges and majors.
Valerie feels she has been blessed with many interesting opportunities during her career. Her first design position was with an architect in downtown Charlotte, working on small residential renovation projects and commercial buildings. She stayed with commercial projects for a while, including designing apartment floor plans for an historic hotel renovation in Washington, D.C.  Valerie later worked as an Interior Designer for a custom home builder. The experience of meeting new families, listening and understanding how they needed their house to function to make a home was very appealing to her thus directing her path to residential architecture. Since then, residential design, from space planning to interior design has been her passion.
Living by the adage, “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life,” Valerie feels perfectly at home with the ACM Design team. Working intently to deliver just the right touches to create a client’s dream homes is a joy and a pleasure. When not working, Valerie loves high-flying adventure, and enjoys aerial parks and military obstacle courses!

Q: Describe your job in three words.
A: “Exciting, Enjoyable, Enlightening”
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in WNC?
A: “Hiking. I have a new mountain bike and know nothing about it but I look forward to many explorations with it as well.”
Q: What are your favorite hobbies?
A: “Most friends would say home renovation. I’ve been known to take out a few walls but there are only so many walls left so I will go back to my love of gardening.”
Q: What made you choose WNC as home?
A: “My family home was located right outside the city limits of Charlotte. We had a few acres of land so I grew up playing in the woods. Most days after school you would find me sitting on a large rock by a creek or slipping through a barbed wire fence to play on a playground merry-go-round. The forest is a place of peace and beauty. What better place to be than WNC?”
Q: If you could live anywhere else, where would it be?
A: “I believe I need to travel more to answer this question but I enjoyed the short amount of time I spent in Barcelona, Spain.”
Q: What room do you spend the most time in at home?
A: “The Kitchen. I am a hot mess when I cook but I thouroughly enjoy sitting with a cup of coffee and enjoying the serenity that my home brings me.”
Q: If you could change one thing about your home what would it be?
A: “I would restructure the closet layouts. Storage and organization is an absolute must for me.”
Q: What is your favorite type of food?
A: “Chocolate. Absolutely anything Chocolate.”
Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: an Air Force Pilot.”
Q: How do you take your coffee?
A: “Black, with a piece of chocolate.”
Q: Tell us something a lot of people don’t know about you.
A: “I was born in Michigan. I recall starting First Grade in Charlotte and the other kids making fun of my northern accent. I promise you that no one can tell I ever lived in the north with the strong southern drawl I have now!”
Q: If you could visit anywhere in the world you haven’t been, where would it be?
A: “Africa. I would like to go on a safari!”
