This traditional style Asheville home offered nice curb appeal, but didn’t live as well inside. The cramped kitchen opened to an equally crowded family room, making family gathering uncomfortable. The bedrooms offered plenty of sleeping space, but most of the baths needed updating. The house had good bones, but needed vision to make it a home.

For a family that loves to entertain, renovating the kitchen was task number one. With an L-shaped configuration, the kitchen anchors its place between the new great room and dining space to create the ultimate in open plan living. The new kitchen expands to take over a little used breakfast nook to allow for plenty of storage and an expansive island with seating. The former family room converted into a spacious dining area open to the kitchen and with views to the new covered porch. The kitchen flows into the new great room addition which features a vaulted ceiling with exposed timber collar ties and a commanding stone fireplace with timber mantle to allow family and friends to gather comfortably. The great room connects to the outdoor living space via french doors that frame the spacious covered porch and landscape beyond.

The thoughtful changes incorporated in the renovation and additions to this home transformed a good house into a great and comfortable family home.
